I have a grandniece and grandnephew who are both around 1 1/2 and they love playing with my daughter's Lalaloopsy dolls. My grandnephew has recently learned how to throw, great for playing ball but not so much with everything else. Since I had just finished making several dresses and outfits for Lalaloopsy dolls I decided to give making the Littles dolls as well. This is the finished design and the kiddos loved their new babies.
Hk size~ F/3.75
Worsted weight(4) yarn in cream and white for doll
Super Bulky(6) yarn in your choice of color for hair
2 3/4in buttons for eyes
Black felt for lashes on girl doll
Pink felt for cheeks
Crochet Thread for mouth
Embroidery thread to sew on lashes and cheeks

Lint roller. When making and attaching the hair I got covered in fuzz.
Safety Pin for the diaper. If it's for a small child then try using a decorative button that only looks like a safety pin. Locking stitch markers or party favors, if none of those you can try silver/gray embroidery floss and hand stitching one on.
Bit of red felt for a small heart on the back of the diaper. The dolls have their 'sewn to life' date on them.
Other options
Bulky(5) yarn for hair. You can go smaller, it just takes longer to attach.
Substitute Cream yarn for any color you want your doll. She's your doll, or gift, so have fun with it!
Embroidery floss for mouth
Scraps of fleece for lashes & cheeks
Eyes don't have to be the same color. One or both eyes can be closed for a wink or sleeping baby. You can make an eye patch for a pirate or X for zombie.
Crochet a small circle for cheeks
Fabric scrap filled with Poly Pellets in bottom to help the doll sit nicely
Magic Circle instead of ch 2
Skip the sl st, ch 1 thoughout pattern if you don't want a 'seam'. That's just my preference when making amigurumi
Instead of sewing a smile on you can use decorative buttons, like a kiss or even a moustache.
Add bows or flowers to her hair ties for that special finishing touch.

Leave a long tail for sewing
For the hair I cut 36 pieces of yarn 14 inch long. Using an I/5.25mm hook to chain along the center of the yarn, 2 strands at a time, leaving a long tail on both the beginning and end of the chain. I stitched the hair to the head along the chain, making sure to catch each strand. The 'part' isn't exactly straight but if you've ever tried putting pigtails on a toddler you know that's normal.
I cut another strand of 14 inch yarn for each pigtail, wrapping it around several times. You don't need to wrap this tightly, it will bunch up. Run the embroidery floss through the wrapped part, catching all the hair and securing it from pulling free. Now sew the pigtail to the head so it doesn't flop out of place, she'll look silly if you don't. All that's left now is to trim the ends and tidy it up.
If you want your doll to have longer hair you can leave it as it is or even cut your strands longer than 14 inches. Or you can use whatever method you like to make and attach her hair.

Assembly
Stitch hair, eyes, lashes, and cheeks to head.
(To make the cheeks I traced around a button.)
Stitch on a mouth. (It doesn't have to be a smile.)
Sew the body to the head.
Sew the tops of the arms and legs closed, then sew them on the body.
(I pinned the pieces on to decide where I wanted them before sewing.)
If you're giving the doll a safety pin or heart on the bottom, now's the time to add those.
First is the hair for the girl doll.

Now for the baby boy.
I used the same method to make and attach the hair as I used for the girl.
I used pins to mark where I wanted to sew the hair to the side.
I flipped the chain down for the boy. The 'bump' looked less like a braid according to my daughter. I used 'parted' the hair to the side instead of down the center.
I staggered the length of the hair so it A, left fewer 'bald' spots, and B, there was too much to work it all the same length. I worked the front down the side and the back to fill in.
I used craft glue on the ends of the hair to keep it from fraying or coming loose of the stitching. It didn't come out as stiff as I was afraid it would so that was a bonus. This was a lot of work and took almost a full day to stitch in place and wait for glue to dry so I could continue.
